Description of Class: ETC theater classes teaches the three pillars of theater: acting, singing and dancing to all those with physical and developmental disabilities. Through theater games, improvisation, music and dance the program enhances verbal skills, improves movement, builds self-confidence, and advances socialization while stimulating free thinking. ETC creates options for personal growth by exploring all the learning opportunities theater has to offer. Most semesters are 12 weeks long, with a performance at the end of each semester or participation on an annual event. Actors, with the assistance from instructors and shadows, select their songs and edit and/or write their own scripts. Each individual class provides a setting for inclusion with the involvement of the entire community as volunteers; mostly high school students. The volunteers also known as shadows; work along with the special needs students on and off the stage.
